Credit Unions are Helping Here

Individually, credit unions do a great job of sharing their success stories when contributing thousands of dollars to support their communities. However, the scope of credit union giving is not widely understood nor recognized. Combined, credit unions actually contribute millions of dollars to organizations and individuals in Canada each year. According to a recent survey, credit unions in Canada contributed over $42 million through donations, financial services, sponsorships, bursaries, and scholarships.

Credit Unions are Helping Here is an initiative that promotes credit union giving in British Columbia and Ontario under one brand. By working together and showcasing all credit union contributions through Credit Unions are Helping Here, credit union employees, members, and the general public can begin to understand the significance and reach of credit union contributions to their communities.

Why Credit Unions are Helping Here will make a difference

Individually, credit unions showcase their community giving through news releases, cheque presentations, and local news stories. But think about how much more impact would be made if credit union giving were promoted under one brand.

Credit Unions are Helping Here will:

Give credit unions branded tools to promote their community contributions (posters, signs, presentation cheques, templates, online banners, press release tool, and much more!)
Provide a website that compiles and tracks credit union contributions (launching fall 2011). This website will fulfill a dual purpose not only as a tool for credit unions to submit and track community contributions, but also to share and promote their contributions to their members and the public.

The goal is to make credit union giving more recognizable. This initiative will be successful when credit unions work together. For information about how credit unions can get involved, visit the Credit Union Ambassador section of this website.

Initiative launch

Credit Unions are Helping Here is set for a pre-launch this fall. Credit union ambassadors will have access to the initiative website to create a profile and detail any recent contributions their credit union has made to the community. The public promotion of the site will be done in late 2011 or early 2012.
